The Juju Orchestra
The Juju Orchestra was founded in 2004 by Fab DJ Sammy and producer/sound engineer Oliver Belz. Some of their musical idols are Caetano Veloso, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Steely Dan, Stan Getz (to only name a few). Of course they are influenced by all of them, but the Juju Orchestra have created their own language, like every real artist does: contemporary Soul, Jazz and Latin music with a vintage sound.
The German-based producers and DJs of the Juju Orchestra make a mean cocktail of styles with great hooks and irresistible beats. As the trio blends live instruments and a variety of samples, “This Is Not A Tango” brings an uptempo Argentine dance interpretation evoking the smoky and passionate sound of Gotan Project. The softly funky Bossa groove of “Nâo Posso Demorar” reflects the influences of such music icons as Caetano Veloso and Stan Getz, while its easy going vibe makes it the perfect lounging tune.
Writers and producers are Oliver Belz & Fab DJ Sammy. third member is Ralf Zitzmann, who is responsible for all Juju - business. complete live band of THE JUJU ORCHESTRA can raise up to 12 members. and Fab DJ Sammy is also spinning some records of his outstanding vinyl collection of rare and old Jazz, Soul and Funk music.
Their first album 'Bossa Nova Is Not A Crime' is a blend of funky samples, live instrumentation, and soulful vocals, all served up with a playful sense of groove that really takes us back to some of the best British work of the early Acid Jazz years!! The Juju Orchestra really keep things simple here, and most tunes are based around a core element that's extrapolated nicely, often with a slightly warm sensibility that references older eras of Jazz, Funk and Latin. There's a bit of the Bossa Nova hinted at in the title, but the overall sound is actually a bit more dance floor overall, kind of in a beats-with-Jazz mode.
'Bossa Nova Is Not A Crime' was released worldwide on the 19th March, 2007. On it you can find some co-op's with great vocalists like Terry Callier, Carolyn Leonhart (Steely Dan), Katia B from Brazil and Robert Smith. 'Rio de Janeiro Blue' was released by Universal Jazz and they received some great reactions for their work. Read more on Last.fm.
